About UIC

The International Union of Railways (Union Internationale des Chemins de fer – UIC) is the worldwide organisation for international cooperation among railways and promotion of rail transport at a global level. Founded in 1922, it currently gathers more than 200 members on all 5 continents, among them rail operators, infrastructure managers or vehicle keepers.

The UIC office is in Paris, close to the Eiffel Tower.

Within UIC, security activities are of strategic importance to the organisation and represent growing topics around the world: UIC is involved in several EU-funded security research projects and cooperates with high level institutions in this area.

In response to the growing number of acquired international security research projects funded by the European Union, we are looking for a motivated professional to join the Security Team.

Job description

Primary mission:

  • Participate in the activities of the Security Department, integrating with the existing team composed of 4 persons.
  • Bring own expertise in the implementation and development of ongoing security research projects and support the other activities of the Security Department.

Key responsibilities:

  • Support the implementation and daily technical work on ongoing EU-funded research projects, in particular two projects dealing with the CBRN topic (e.g. CBRNe4rail and BEHOLDER);
  • Contribute to research and to drafting project deliverables, draft meeting conclusions, draft recommendations/guidelines on rail security issues;
  • Carry out a media monitoring on rail security;
  • Coordinate logistics for events and partner meetings;
  • Assist in project communication and dissemination activities (e.g. develop dissemination materials, draft articles, Social Media posts, etc.);
  • Support other activities of the Security Platform (update and maintain existing online tools).

Required qualifications:

Education: Master’s degree
Experience: 1-3 years of experience in EU-funded innovation programmes (e.g., Horizon Europe)
Skills:

  • Excellent written and spoken English;
  • Project implementation (draft reports, run meetings, analyse data);
  • Good knowledge of scientific research methods;
  • Mastery of traditional IT tools (MS Office suite or similar; basic HTML skills for web content editing; good command of Canva and other visual design tools);
  • Very good communication skills (including public speaking), tact and diplomacy;
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment;
  • Organised, proactive and eager to grow professionally.

Availability to travel; frequent international business trips foreseen.
The candidate must hold a European work permit and be available as soon as possible.

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Specific knowledge on security certified by a training programme or a national diploma;
  • Professional experience in the railway/public transport domain;
  • Previous experience in an intercultural environment;
  • Previous cooperation with security stakeholders, national authorities, Law Enforcement Agencies, first responders, CI operators, etc.;
  • Good working level in French or third language.

Post details:
Location: On site: UIC (International Union of Railways) headquarters, 16 rue Jean Rey 75015 Paris. Partial work-from-home available, in agreement with the manager.
Start date: April 2026
Contract: Full-time, 18-months contract (CDD)
Salary range: Gross € 35-40 K per year, based on experience
